A friend of mine on a popular fishing forum (Florida Sportsman) acquainted me with HDR or High Dynamic Range photography and I was so impressed that I set out to do some studies using the technique.

HDR photography is using different exposures of the same image either manipulated or bracketed and combining them to create a 32 bit file. This file gives you extended image information with details in both the highlights and shadows that you wouldn't get in a 16 or 8 bit file. After you adjust everything the way you like it you can then reduce the bit size to 8 bit for printing.

I really enjoy using the technique and will use it at every opportunity that warrants it. I enjoy the flexiblity of being able to go from an enhanced realistic image to a surreal image by tweaking the strength and luminance of the effect.
